The Butterfly

The monarch butterfly represents the ability for every child we work with to change, grow and thrive. Helping each child reach their full potential is our passion and why we do what we do, every day.

Why I Started Solace Healthcare

I started Solace Healthcare in 2005 after working for nine years as an Occupational Therapist for people of all ages. In addition to my therapy practice I had also taken on a number of leadership roles, including Director of Operations for one of the largest therapy providers in the country.

A few things became clear to me as my career progressed: I realized that my real passion was working with children, and I also realized if I was going to start a company that provided children with the kind of therapy they truly deserved, the process of delivering that therapy had to be improved. Those two thoughts are what prompted me to start Solace Healthcare—and what still drives me today.

My goal at Solace Healthcare is to make a real difference in the quality of life of our children by offering families a better way to get the therapy they need. In just seven years Solace Healthcare has become the premiere provider of pediatric therapy services in the Denver metro area because we have worked to meet and exceed these goals.

Today, when you come into Solace Healthcare you will see a streamlined system that allows our therapists to devote their full energy and attention to our kids, instead of spending unnecessary time doing administrative tasks. This transformation has made everyone’s job, including mine, more rewarding.

The other aspect I find incredibly rewarding is being a part of a company that gives back. One of my greatest joys at Solace Healthcare is our annual Holiday Gift Drive. During the holidays, we celebrate the spirit of giving by giving presents to the children in the community who may not otherwise get any holiday gifts. We also give parents money and gift cards to help support themselves during the holiday season. If you know of a family in need during the holidays, please let me know, and we’ll do our best to help those children have a happy holiday. In 2010, we supplied Christmas to 18 families. This is one of our greatest accomplishments.

One thing that people find surprising is when I tell them how much fun this work can be. I have always loved working with kids, and marvel at the fact that so much of what we achieve is done through play. At Solace Healthcare we get to play with kids all day—and that’s fun! It’s also the most rewarding work I know of, because we get to see great progress and changed lives.

Warmest Regards,
Mike Billinghurst
